Event Details

Tim McGarry at the 2008 AwardsA night on the tiles with Northern Ireland's political anoraks

NB: Only one ticket per person.

Update: Tickets all gone! Please register for the 'waitlist' and we will let you know if any tickets come available.

Now in its second year, Slugger O’Toole is trying to catch our local political class being good. And where we don't, we're going to have a bit of a laugh about it.

Once again, Tim McGarry will be hosting the night, and tickets are free of charge to anyone who books online.

The awards have their own dedicated website which lists details of the individual categories and the judging process. Leading political cartoonist, Martin Rowson from The Guardian will be joining us on the night to provide the prizes.

Instead of the usual crystal rosebowl or a little trophy like the ones that pub darts-players get, Slugger Awards winners will instead receive a (possibly unkind) caricature, drawn there and then by Mr Rowson.

2008 winner prizes

These awards present us with a fantastic opportunity to improve politics in a way that institutional reformers will never be able to. We want to reward better politicians, better politics and better governance.

We’d like to reward those that have succeeded in reaching out to the public and involving them more effectively in local governance.

Slugger has already announced its award categories on the site. Each award has its own ‘thread’ and you can get over to the site to make sure that you're involved in the nominations - be quick! While there's still time.....

Book your ticket now to avoid disappointment. When they're gone, they're gone.....

The Great BIG Politics Pub Quiz for Haven Partnership

Haven is a non-governmental, organisation working to build sustainable communities, through the provision of housing, and emergency relief and by implementing community development programmes in Haiti.

By training, up-skilling and employing local Haitian people throughout the year, Haven is creating jobs and encouraging local trade and industry. Schools, playgrounds, and community buildings are key elements of Haven's community building projects.
